Best Dressed at the 2017 BAFTAs

From Emma Stone in Chanel Couture and Nicole Kidman in Giorgio Armani to Tom Ford in...Tom Ford, all the stars stepped out in style tonight for the 2017 BAFTAs. Held at the Royal Albert Hall, Meryl Streep (in a tailored trouser suit) joined a host of Hollywood A-Listers for the British awards show, braving the cold weather too. Felicity Jones opted for a black Dior gown, Gucci was a hit for Naomi Harris while Penelope Cruz stunned in a metallic silver gown. Michelle Williams also went for a bit of glitter in her silver mini dress, but it was Alexander McQueen who was top the frocks tonight. Emily Blunt, Eddie Redmayne's wife Hannah and even the Duchess of Cambridge all graced the red carpet in gowns by the fashion house.

Nominated actress Viola Davis looked stylish in a sweeping blue dress, Amy Adams looked serene in emerald green and Daisy Ridley very wisely wore a jacket with her outfit. Taylor Hill looked amazing in a white column dress while Thandie Newton donned an elegant black dress for the occasion. So who will be the big winners tonight? In terms of fashion, I think Penelope wins hands down, with runner up bring Nicole Kidman.

RiRi takes to the skies for Harper's Bazaar US

Inspired by Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly across the Atlantic ocean, Harper's Bazaar US today released their cover star editorial featuring the one and only Rihanna. For the special 150th anniversary of the fashion magazine, Queen Rih was chosen to star on the cover and pose as the legendary pilot Earhart for the March issue. Photographed by Mariano Vivanco, the photos see Rihanna posing alongside 4 fellow pilots, on the wings of a jet plane and on the runway in a stunning Ralph Lauren gown. Wearing brands such as Stella McCartney, Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, Tods and Hermes, this is one editorial that you can't miss. I was so excited when I saw these photos that I had to post them on the blog. If I could afford Stella McCartney, I would snap up that ivory shirt and khaki trousers along with the watch and aviators worn by Rih. She looks amazing in all the photos and represents girl power at its finest.

"There's something so special about a woman who dominates in a man's world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer. Amelia Earhart was such a dynamic force in her industry, setting multiple aviation records in her time. So it was a no-brainer for me to team up with Harper's Bazaar in honor of a woman who held her own with the big boys." —Rihanna

Valentino finally steps into the Light

I am going through a Valentino renaissance. I have always liked Valentino, (liked not loved I must say) especially the elegance and sophistication which resonates from all of their collections. From the sweeping, silk dresses, classic stud shoes, soft blouses and red carpet gowns, Valentino are what I would call a safe brand. You're not going to see one season when they send punks down the runway. The will do 'punk' but with a magical, fairy tale spin. With Maria Grazia Chiuri, who's now at Dior, and Pier Paulo Piccoili working together during the years they spent at the brand, there was a period of pure beauty and wonder. And  now with Chiuri at gone, Piccioli can shine alone, taking centre stage at this beautiful brand.

Valentino's couture collection last week gave Pier Paulo Piccioli the opportunity to showcase his skills. Long, lean lines made the models look like angels treading carefully down the runway, layers of chiffon swept with the wind while pistachio shades worked with white, lemon, ruby red and ivory. The way the dresses fell reminded me of ancient Roman statues which stare serenely out across palaces and forgotten ruins. There was a real sense of majesty to the show with less attention paid to embellishment and more focus on the folds of material. Simplicity is what Valentino do so well, and now that Piccioli is working alone, I hope that his style will become more apparent and classic, not that it's not already classic enough. His love of high necklines and fluid shapes make him a love of Hollywood stars for red carpet events, while his demure clothing suits many of his Arab clients who favour longer sleeves and hemlines.

I was also drawn to Valentino's Spring/Summer 2017 campaign after seeing it in Vogue. Refreshing, poised and eye catching, this campaign feels like a very modern Valentino. Liya Kebede, Chirsty Turlington, Fei Fei Sun and new face Ratner stare hauntingly out of the photos in stunning black and white imagery by David Sims. Turlington is particularly beautiful. Wearing minimal make up, she bares all her lines and wrinkles, instead of trying to cover them with the help of air brushing which is very refreshing for an ad campaign. "The eternity of a portrait, the immediacy of a documented moment, the poised simplicity of introspection," explained Piccioli of this spring campaign. "A campaign that plays with time: what endures and what is unrepeatable."

The opposite pages feature whimsical photographs taken behind the scenes at the Valentino spring/summer 2017 show by Sims. I love the silk red dress which looks like a cardinal's robe given a make over while the blurred photos add a sense of magic and charm. I'm usually drawn to strong images especially for ad campaigns, so surprised myself that these Valentino ads should stand out as much as they do. I really am interested to see what Piccioli does in the future at Valentino, now that his former design partner is receiving rave reviews at Dior. Nevertheless, the true Valentino Garavani would be proud of this collection.

PFW: Chanel Haute Couture 2017

In the Grand Palais Karl Lagerfeld delivered his latest Haute Couture collection for Chanel. Following on from Maria Grazia Chiuri's spectacular Dior couture show yesterday along with the evening masquerade ball hosted by Dior, Chanel had a lot to live up to.

Lagerfeld opened the show with a handful of pretty tweed suits, a tribute to the current Jackie movie perhaps, which came belted at the waist. Chanel and tweed are synonymous with each other but there was something about these suits which just felt fresh and new. I loved the cute neckties and boater hats which were paired with them. But it was the stand out pieces at the end of the collection which were really beautiful. I'm not usually a fan of Chanel's version of red carpet dressing, but so many of these dresses would fit right in at the Oscars next month. They were beautiful and the craftsmanship was second to none. Sequined empire line dresses decked with feathers at the hem and on the arms, deep v-cut gowns with material tiered around the skirts, le pouf skirts with glittery Mary Janes...everything just looked so stunning paired together.

The waist was really highlighted with belts drawing in draped fabric in soft pleats while the baby pink, lime green and silver tones all worked together seamlessly. All the models, which included Arizona Muse and Bella Hadid looked simply divine with their hair carefully swept to the side and pinned back from the face, which had minimal make up too. Lagerfeld's message was simple - this show was all about the clothes. As the last looks came out onto the tiled runway, Lily Rose Depp stepped out in a giant pink, frilled gown which was slightly shorter at the front and trailed across the floor at the back. If there was one look that summed up the show, it was that one. As Lagerfeld came out to take his bow, Lily Rose by his side, the Grand Palais erupted into jubilant applause. In my opinion, this was one of Lagerfeld's best couture collection ever.

Saint Laurent's New Attitude

I am currently going through a Saint Laurent phase. I wasn't a huge fan of the Parisian fashion label during Hedi Slimane's tenure, but I am a fan of Anthony Vaccarello. His first show for the brand was sexy, powerful, very 80s influenced and was the perfect day to night wardrobe for a French fashion editor living that exciting jet set lifestyle. When shopping in Zara  recently, I literally couldn't contain my excitement when I happened across a faux leather black mini dress, one arm draped in material the other bare. It was a YSL knock off and for only £10 was a complete bargain. I am absolutely sure that when I premiere it in Paris this weekend with the right accessories it could pass as Saint Laurent.

Anthony Vaccerello is a cool guy, first with the designs for his eponymous label and then for Versus Versace. His love of black, glamour and a certain rock and roll look has become part of the designer's DNA and I have no doubt YSL will continue to reign supreme over the fashion industry. "My idea of YSL lies in the attitude," the designer revealed to Vogue last year and judging by the latest Saint Laurent campaign, Vaccarello has most definitely brought the attitude. Featuring a host of models of the moment including Mica Arganaraz, Freja Beha Erichsen, Selena Forrest and Hiandra Martinez, the campaign is shot completely in monochrome and is extremely provocative. Photographer Collier Schorr shows off Vaccarello's daring designs for spring with a polka dot mini dress a particular favourite of mine.

But it was Vaccarello's first campaign for YSL which really caught my attention. Shot by Inez and Vinoodh, the campaign was a taster of what Vaccarello would bring to YSL and featured one of the coolest models ever, Anja Rubik. I loved the moodiness of the black and white photos as well as the clothes of course which reminded me of the famous 'Le Smoking' suit. Yves Saint Laurent has so much rich history with all the incredible couture shows and iconic looks and this new designer looks likely to embody that spirit into his collections for the brand. Take a look at the old and new campaign below and trust me, you too will be converted into a YSL fan just like me.

Best Dressed at The Golden Globes 2017

The 2017 Golden Globe awards were perhaps the most politically stirring ceremony yet. With Meryl Streep bashing the soon to the president Donald trump in her lifetime achievement acceptance speech and host Jimmy Fallon making barbed jokes about the unpopular (and non deserving) President elect, actors used the Globes as a stage to vent their frustration.

With politics aside, La La Land was the big winner of the night scooping all 7 awards the film was nominated for. Emma Stone who looked exquisite in Valentino won for Best Actress while a very dapper Ryan Gosling won for Best Actor. La La Land also won Best Song, Best Director for Damien Chazelle and Best Picture for a musical for comedy. Other winners included Brits Tom Hiddleston for The Night Manager, Hugh Laurie and Claire Foy for The Crown. Isabelle Huppert won for best actress in a drama while Billy Bob Thornton won an award for his role in Goliath. Tracee Ellis Ross won the gong for  best actress in a TV series for Black-ish which was another big moment of the evening.

But the real winner was Meryl Streep who was honoured with a lifetime achievement award for her outstanding contribution to film. She took to the stage in a beautiful gown and graciously accepted the award paying tribute to all the foreign talent which makes Hollywood so special. Brad Pitt also received a rapturous round of applause when he took to the stage to present an award showing that his Hollywood friends still have his back. Overall it was as always, a very glamorous night.

The cut throats jokes were limited this year with the absence of Ricky Gervais. Jimmy Fallon instead brought a fun spin to proceedings with a few technical hitches making the evening more entertaining. And then of course there was the star studded red carpet and the fashion! Versace was a big hit, with Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Campbell and Matt Damon and his wife all donning attire by the Italian fashion house. Pryanka Chopra looked amazing in gold Ralph Lauren, Nicole Kidman stunned in a very ornate Alexander McQueen gown with husband Keith Urban while Jessica Beil looked dramatic in a full black gown. Yellow was a big colour with Witherspoon, Emily Ratajowski and Natalie Portman all choosing lemon shades while I loved the simplicity of Amy Adams black strapless dress. Sarah Jessica Parker looked amazing in a white Vera Wang gown while Drew Barrymore, Chrissy Teigan and Sophia Vergara brought the sparkle to the red carpet. I loved Zoe Saldana's bright pink ruffled gown which really shouldn't have worked but instead looked amazing and Heidi Klum looked good in a midi monochrome number.

Usually the Golden Globes is seen as the more fun, sexier version of the Oscars with actresses flashing the flesh at every opportunity. But this year was classy. Dresses were tasteful and even if there was a bit of cleavage here and there it was nothing compared to previous years. See all the best dressed of the night below...
Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, Siena Miller and Zoe Saldana
Reese Witherspoo, Natalie Portman and Emily Ratajowski
Jessica Biel, Thandie Newton, Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain
Golden Couples: Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, Matt Damon and wife, John Legend and Chrissy Teigan
Gold and black ran the show for Blake, Kerry, Rachael and Pryanka
Sophia Vergara, Drew Barrymore and Sarah Jessica Parker
