VOGUE COVERS: Natasha Poly

Russian supermodel Natasha Poly is one of my favourite models, and it seems to be she's a firm favourite of Vogue's too! From Spain to Brazil, America to China, Ms Poly has earned herself quite a few magazine covers with Vogue as her striking looks and to-die-for body make her an amazing model and a role model for young girls wanting to break into the modelling industry. Poly made her triumphant return to the catwalk last season having taken time off to have her first child, yet she came back with a bang, prowling down the runway at Givenchy, Balenciaga and Stella McCartney to name just some. I decided to honour her extraordinary fashion career with a small montage of some of her best Vogue covers, as she continues to shine on and off the catwalk. Yes, she's a stunning Victoria's Secret model, but there is more behind those good looks and amazing body: a dedicated, hard working woman who deserves to be recognised as a true Russian Supermodel!! x

Celebrating 40 Posh Years of Victoria Beckham!

From glamorous WAG to respected fashion designer, Spice Girl to doting mother of 4... Victoria Beckham has much to celebrate on her 40th birthday today. This woman (I just wanna throw in that she's British too, from Essex to be precise!) has managed to forge a successful fashion career loved the world over by women who long for simple yet elegant clothes, which earned her the award Designer Brand of the Year 2011 at the British Fashion Awards, not to mention a whole host of accolades and awards. Furthermore, this is the women who married David Beckham... you don't get much better than that! But Victoria hasn't always had it easy - media scrutiny, unflattering paparazzi photos, allegations of David's affair etc, but has remained strong and vigilant throughout turbulent times. In regard to her sense of style, she hasn't always got it perfect! Remember the infamous matching Versace leather jumpsuits she and husband Daivd wore?Nobody could forget a fashion fail like that!

VB's style has changed rapidly, from plunging tight dresses to minimal fur rimmed coats. Hemlines have got longer, well they couldn't get much shorter, and the bold, brash colours Victoria favoured when she first moved to Los Angeles had been replaced with more subdued, neutral colours in beige, cream and black. A much more sophisticated look to go with this superwomans status as caring mother and fashion designer. Out with the trashy leopard print maxi dresses and in with the over-sized coats and skyscraper heels. Victoria can also be viewed as quite a trend setter, with her effortless airport arrivals and departures, Harper Seven under one arm, a Hermes Birkin in the other. She doesn't over-do the whole glam look either with her slightly curled brunette hair tied up or left casually down, paired with her notoriously HUGE sunglasses. And who could forget the iconic bob haircut? Oh yes, long at the front, short at the back, dyed blonde with dark highlights. This was the haircut women everywhere loathed and envied, as Beckham is always able to pull off even the most dangerous of cuts, and she certainly succeeded with this one. Even I, at the young age of 13, begged my mum to get my haircut in the style of VB (my mother defiantly refused!)

Airport chic!
In terms of her career, Victoria has gone from 1/5th of the Spice Girls to fashion designer, showing at New York Fashion Week biannually. Her move into fashion was met with much criticism, I regret even from myself, as the WAG from Essex used her celebrity status and influential fashion friends to start her own womenswear company, in her own name. With the help of manager Simon Fuller and fellow designer Roland Mouret, the Victoria Beckham fashion label has grown into a worldwide hit with celebrities including Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum and Kate Winslet all donning a posh frock on the red carpet. She claims that she works through the night, regularly using Skype to communicate with her team in London and is part of every stage of the design process, yet there are always doubts over her lack of artistic and creative ability to draw and sew, leading to much press speculation and accusation.

The thing is, VB is like Marmite: You either love her or hate her, with hate verging on jealousy. Beautiful husband, beautiful children, beautiful home, beautiful clothes...she has everything a woman could possibly ask for and then some. She has remained humble and supportive of David while his footballing career took him off to Spain, America and Italy to name just some and has managed to raise a family all in the media glare of the world. So, if anything I take my fashion hat off to Posh on her 40th birthday and wish her many happy returns on her special day. I wonder what the next decade will hold for brand Beckham...

The Fashionable Evolution of Kim Kardashian's Wardrobe....

Since, American reality star Kim Kardashian started dating rapper Kanye West, it's fair to stay her sense of style has changed... rapidly. From tight mini skirts and leopard print tops to creme crop tops and midi, sheer skirts, Ms Kardashian has evolved her designer wardrobe into a much more stylish, sophisticated and overall classy style. Yes, Kim still enjoys parading her cleavage for the throng of paparazzi usually surrounding her, but she favours a much more neutral colour pallet now with designers Givenchy, Celine, Tom Ford and Alexander McQueen being clear favourites. Not to mention her 'new' stiletto fav, the strappy sandal in gold and black detailing - Manolo Bhahnik anyone? Kim revealed that while she was pregnant with daughter North West, she felt her body resembled a whale. A little extreme maybe, but for a woman who is always seen in tight dresses and skyscraper heels, the idea of putting on a great deal of weight is not ideal. Not to mention the tiny 5'1 proportions of the reality star, (well, excluding her chest.) However, Kim has shed most of that baby weight and was recently snapped wearing a tiny bikini while holidaying with her family in Thailand. So, you can be expecting that famous body to be on show once again, making all us women highly envious.

Anyhow, Kim has established herself as a bit of a fashion icon with designer Karl Lagerfeld, Carine Roitfeld and even Anna Wintour heaping praise on her sense of style and impeccable wardrobe decisions. I mean, she's even featured on the front cover of American Vogue with fiancee Kanye and baby North! You don't get much better than that. From trashy to classy; Ms Kardashian as firmly plotted herself on the fashion radar as her looks are copied by women all over the world, magazines, high street stores and other celebrities hoping to follow in her fashionable footsteps.

So what do you think of Kim K's style evolution? Is she trying too hard to be taken seriously as a fashion goddess or has she got her style bang on trend with pieces which look wonderful on her curvy body? We all have our opinions (most of them negative) on the Kardashian clan and their rise to power, but i think its fair to say that Kim's fashion sense has greatly improved and this 'new look' which she seems to favour is working for her, (and her public image!) As long as she's comfortable with the skin she's in, or I should really say the 'clothes' she's in, Kim has my support even if Kanye is the one to blame for this fashion make over!

Before, Kim liked her heavy make up and fake tan...

V&A: The Glamour of Italian Fashion Exhibition

You don't get a more perfect exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum than bringing Italy and the world of fashion together, my two long time loves. From Elizabeth Taylor's Bulgari jewels to a Prada handbag, this new and highly exciting exhibit looks in detail at the craftsmanship, passion and dedication which has shaped Italy into the fashion capital that it is.

Designers Dolce & Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo, Armani, Prada and Versace all feature designs and memorabilia in the exhibition which traces the changes in Italy from the Second World War, through the rocking 60's to the late 90's with many amazing pieces along the way. For me, this is extremely exciting and something new for the v&a which rarely focuses on one aspect of fashion in detail like this specific exhibition does. Furthermore, Italy has always captivated me, from the cultural heritage to the movie moments of La Dolce Vita to the electrifying Milan Fashion Week; a mix of glamour, sex appeal and fun - Moschino anybody?! Italy has always been considered a very fashionable city with fashionable inhabitants who seem to know everything there is about looking good at any age. Glamour and Italy just go together, they were meant for each other and now we can join in with this captivating love affair too!

As for the grand opening on the 1st April, a whole host of designers, editors, celebrities and actresses swarmed to London to be present for this special night. Rita Ora, Poppy Delevingne, Liz Hurley and Eva Herzigova brought the glamour while designers Valentino, Dolce and Gabbana, Cristopher Kane, Tom Ford and Sarah Burton among many others viewed their work on display and marvelled at their fellow artisans magical creations. Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue and Franca Sozzani editor of Italian Vogue were both also present, stopping on the red carpet to pose alongside Valentino and Giancarlo Giamatti. It was indeed the hottest ticket in town, and now it's open to US, the general public to share in this world of fashion. I can't wait to pop down to the V&A for a visit, and I insist you do the same and jump head first into the world of Italian Fashion...
