67th Annual Cannes Film Festival: Best Dressed!

From Aishwarya Rai's beautiful Roberto Cavalli gown to Blake Lively's Gucci burgundy dress, the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival was full of wonderful fashion moments that had out hearts skipping a beat. The stars of music, theatre and film sure pulled out all the stops on the red carpet with Cate Blanchett, Eva Longoria and Cheryl Cole all strutting their stuff this week in elegant creations by some of the worlds best designers. So who was your favourite? Was it Nicole Kidman in Armani, or maybe Blake (who made a number of appearences!) in that stunning white Chanel gown, straight from their latest couture collection. Either way, Cannes was magnificent!

Chanel Cruise 2015: When East met West

Held in Dubai on a deserted island, attended by the biggest names in fashion and designed by the most talented man in fashion! The 2015 Cruise Collection was a mix of both Western and Eastern influences with loose, easy silhouettes and beautiful patterns reminiscent of Arabian nights. Models sported huge hair, fitted with dainty silver headbands adorned with the Chanel logo, half crescent moons and pearls as make up was dark and mysterious with heavy eye shadow and sculpted cheeks. The iconic tweed suits were updated in pretty pastels colours in baby pinks and lilacs while scarfs were draped across dresses creating a very grown up look, yet extremely chic and stylish. Jewels featured on almost every piece of clothing as well as on numerous necklaces and bangles which added to the overall sumptuous look of the collection. Karl Lagerfeld knows what women want to wear, especially in the hot summer. Every look was elegant, wearable and desirable whether you're holidaying in humid Mexico or traveling the Middle East on top of a camel - there was something to suit everyone.

My favourite look of the show was Joan Small's final dress, which came in a beautiful camel colour with a silver embellished neckline and yards of silk material flowing behind her. The dresses towards the end were also to die for, with the running motif of the show, the paisley/floral design, patterned onto skirts, tea dresses, jackets and trousers. All the dresses were so Chanel and very red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, as the chiffon and silk hugged every lump and bump and created a look which would win hands down in any party. I adored this collection and can't wait to start seeing celebrities wearing these creations out and about, because seriously, who doesn't want to wear Chanel on the school run?

Highlights of the 2014 Met Ball...

Well this has been a packed full week! From the amazing 2014 Met Gala on Monday night, to John Rochas retirement announcement to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt causing chaos in London by stepping out at Kensington palace.... Believe me, in the world of fashion/celebrity culture, this week has been huge.

But I want to talk about the Met Gala, I mean, who isn't still talking about THE gala of the year? Firstly, it seemed like the whole of hollywood and beyond decided to attend the venue which apparently costs a little over $25,000 a ticket!! From the  A list stars like Beyonce, Jay - Z, David and Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, Johnny Depp etc to members of the Kardashian clan - Kim looked hot in Lanvin accompanied by fiancĂ© Kanye and younger sister and aspiring model, Kendall Jenner. To the most famous models - Cara D, Jourdan Dunn, Rosey, Karlie, Kate Upton, Naomi Campbell, Giselle... And of course the fashion designers: Stella McCartney, Donatella, Dolce and Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Oliver Rousteing, Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, it seemed wherever you looked there was at least one famous face in the throng of beautifully dressed people.  Everyone came out to celebrate with Anna Wintour and her Vogue crew, to honour the amazing talent of couturier Charles James whose new exhibition is now open at the Metropolitan museum of Art and Design. But the most important aspect of the evening was the dresses. Oh yes, celebs trying to out do each other with the most stunning dresses yet sometimes revealing a bit too much flesh (Rita Ora!) it was all there. The dress code for the evening was simply 'white tie' which many male attendees stuck to when choosing their suits for the evening. The women on the other hand went all out in the style stakes.

We would be here forever if I went through each and every dress I personally liked, so I'm going to stick to the best, best dressed of the evening, starting with Mrs Carter aka, Beyonce. For the past 2 years this singing star has picked Givenchy couture gowns and this year was no different, as she opted for a black silk and sequinned Givenchy gown, which elongated her amazing figure and draped elegantly across the red carpet. Wow!! Rihanna and Cara Delevinge also stood out for me, both wearing Brit designer Stella McCartney. Rihanna bared her mid driff in a tight, white creation while Cara stuck with sexy cigarette pants and a bondage style black top, which looked super hot. Blake Lively was another star in the fashion stakes with her incredible Gucci gold gown as was Diane Kruger who went for a baby blue Hugo Boss column dress.
Simple always works. Giselle in Balenciaga, Emma Stone and Taylor Swift also looked the bell of the ball with their striking gowns which stood out in the fashion pack.

Some celebs opted for a more traditional look, in respect to Charles James and the world of couture. Sarah Jessica Parker and Katie Holmes both wore big ball gowns which covered a huge amount of red carpet in bright, popping colours while Kendall Jenner wore a stunning Topshop fishtail gown in pastel pink. Models Arizona Muse, Karolina Kurkova and Toni Garn also stunned in luxe Topshop gowns in velvet and satin textures as they lit up the event and flew the flag for Britain and Topshop!

And who could forget the fashion frock horrors of the night? Well, Rita Ora showed us way too much when she lifted her skirt a little too high, Kate Upton's D&G gown did nothing to flatter her figure and completely engulfed her and Lily Allen looked ghastly in her Chanel frock as did Kristen Stewart who opted for a Chanel gown too.  Even the 'Ice Queen' Anna Wintour did not look great in her Chanel dress, so what was up with Chanel??? As for Lupita Nyongo... Her 1920's Prada flapper dress was a little ugly but I can't help but like her so she's off the hook this time!

Overall, the 2014 Met Ball was indeed a night to remember and a truly special evening which literally brings every one in the star studded world of fashion together. Who stood out for you? Whose dress did you detest or adoringly love? More importantly, what designer would you wear if indeed invited to the ball? Well, there's always next year!

Red Carpet Style: Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson. Talented actress, beautiful model for Dolce and Gabbana, keen humanitarian and charity worker, soon to be mother and a true iconic red carpet dresser. This woman certainly knows how to wow the fashion crowd on the red carpet, whether it be the Oscars, the Met Gala or the Grammy Awards, Scarlett always looks absolutely stunning with elegant, floor sweeping gowns and priceless jewelery which just has us swooning at the staggering price tag! This month, Scarlett Johansson is our red carpet icon as I take a look back at some of her most beautiful gowns and hot fashion sense.

Johansson started her acting career at a young age during the 90's, in films such as Home Alone 3 and The Horse Whisperor. However, it wasn't until Sophia Coppola's 'Lost in Translation' which suspended Scarlett into the super stardom world of Hollywood, securing her a BAFTA and Golden Globe nomination. Since then, this stunning actress has starred in films such as The Other Boleyn Girl, The Avengers, Iron Man 2 and Vicky Christina Barcelona amongst others which audiences the world over have loved and enjoyed. When it comes down to her fashion sense and red carpet style, things are just as bright for Scarlett who never lets us fashionistas down with her amazing dress sense. With her petite frame, Johansson knows what shapes work for her, favouring fish-tail gowns, column dresses in Grecian styles with lots of sweeping chiffon and curvacious cocktail dresses which flatter her figure perfectly. With naturally pale skin, Scarlett usually opps for more neautral tones to go with her skin tone and her famous blonde locks which are either tied up in an elegant chignon or left down in a messy, 'I really don't care' style, which she seemingly always manages to pull off.

Since joining Dolce and Gabbana as a style ambassador and model in 2009, D&G have kitted her out in their finest dresses for major red carpet events. From the Venice Film Festival to the Oscars, Scarlett has worn beautiful Italian lace Dolce dresses with ease, with my personal favourite being the bejewelled nude gown she wore to the Metropolitan Gala in 2012. A strapless gold, embellished bodice gave way to a gown of cream net material which swept across the floor behind her. Another amazing dress, which the press went CRAZY for, was the chic black Versace dress she wore to the Venice Film Festival, while promoting her movie, 'Under the Skin.' This dress was HOT but at the same time so classy and dazzling that it had both men and women in awe of Scarlett and her curvy figure. Absolutly stunning!

Scarlett is indeed a beautiful woman (which we girls appreciate!) and wonderful actress who never fails to wow the crowds with her sense of style. It recently came to surface that she is indeed pregnant with her first child with boyfriend Romain Douriac, which is very exciting, as Scarlett will be a fantastic mother and thefashionbox wish her all the best in the future! As for now, I leave you with our star red carpet dresser...
